HDTV: Know What The Myth Is, What’s The Truth
There are certainly a lot of myths surrounding HDTV including that with flat televisions you will not get the proper resolution whenever the television is displaying objects that are moving quickly. Pirated Web Video Peaks 12-18 Hours After Broadcast
Usage Typically Spikes Morning After Popular Pirated Shows Are First Broadcast By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 4/13/2008 Unauthorized viewing of popular TV shows on video-sharing Web sites like YouTube peaks between 12 and 18 hours after an episode is broadcast, according to a study conducted by Akamai Technologies and content-identification service provider Vobile. The companies tracked one broadcaster’s primetime show—which they declined to identify—over a 30-day period starting the second week of January. They found that while illegal versions of the show became available online within minutes of broadcast, consumption was relatively low in the first 12 hours. Usage spiked the morning following broadcast and grew larger throughout the day. Within 72 hours, unauthorized versions eroded the audience for the content owner’s own TV episode distributed online almost 20%, according to Akamai and Vobile. Vobile used its proprietary video “fingerprinting” technology to capture the primetime broadcast, prior to airtime. It then tracked the propagation of the episode across a series of popular video-sharing Web destinations on the Internet starting one hour after airtime and continuing over 30 days. Times Are Changing When It Comes To TV Technology
There are several things that are happening with TV technology right now that are coming to a head in such a way that we'll see some major changes in the way we watch TV in the near future. One of these new developments is switched digital video. Switched Digital Video, or SDV, is a new type of technology that allows cable TV operators to make better use of their bandwidth by only providing the programming that viewers are watching at any given time. Right now cable TV operators use more of a "shotgun" approach to transmitting programming. That is, they transmit all of their available channels to every subscriber all at once and then allow the individual TV receivers to filter out programming based on which programming package the viewer has subscribed to and the individual channel that's displayed on the TV screen.
